It’s not always about turning pro.
In the same way that playing a sport isn’t necessarily about becoming a professional athlete, studying art isn’t necessarily about becoming a famous artist.
In fact, playing sports and studying art accomplish many of the same things. Just for different types of individuals.
Both sports and art offer many of the same life lessons. How to succeed and how to fail. How to persist until you succeed. Both provide an outlet for energy and emotions. Both are a way to express yourself and become comfortable in your own skin.
The South Bay Art Department is not necessarily a place for famous artists in training (though we will always maintain that hope). Rather, it’s a place for human beings, from 7 to 700, on a journey toward emotional, intellectual and professional well being.
